His command over his chosen medium, metal, is unparalleled. It is often imitated but never replicated.
Today, Jon is revered as an innovator in the metal art realm. That inspiration very organically proliferated into the work Jon is best known for today: his fine paintings, freestanding sculpture, handcrafted clocks, wall sculpture, and celebrated metal wall art. All of these sights, sounds, colors, and people he and his family met along the way seeped into his work. That connection would prove to be enduring.Ī lifetime of imagery was etched into his memory from the unyielding cross-country drives the coastal seaside villages, the desert dunes, the winding mountain roads, countless sunrises and sunsets, rolling fields of green, the smiling faces of his children in the rear view. Other exhibitors would even complain on occasion, but there was no recourse there was simply nothing could diminish the connection between the people and Jon’s work. Even at highly-revered juried art shows, lines would form around Jon and Kelly's booth. A truly prolific artist even in his earliest days, Allen continued to expand upon his designs and the demand for the work continued to grow. The open road became a semi-permanent way of life for several years. The reputation and demand grew steadily galleries all over were clamoring for Jon’s work. He and his wife, Kelly, with their two kids in tow, participated in art shows across the country. Jon Allen’s passion initially lead him to hand-making highly structural, architectural jewelry. He counts among his influence’s abstract painters such as Paul Klee and influential architects like Frank Lloyd Wright. For Jon, it didn’t take long to realize his interest resided at the intersection of architecture and art and that sentiment remains a driving force. He spent time in Europe during his formative years in awe of the centuries-old traditions of Western art.

She will also be sharing studio space with photographer Ivaylo Georgiev. This is the fourth tour for painter Allison Edge, who will be displaying her original oil paintings, watercolors and drawings as well as selling a selection of limited-edition giclée prints of her work. We hope this gives folks an understanding of how our lives work and what we’re up to.” The tour provides an opportunity for local folks and tourists to meet artists and see how they work in their studios. “We don’t demonstrate per se, but we’ll have work in progress and we’ll be showing folks around the tools and accoutrements of our work. “We’ll have all our current body of work, metal and enamel sculpture, gates, flowers and other fun things,” says Blanchard.
The tradition of hosting friends during the tour continues for the pair of glass and metal artists, with hopes that mixed media jewelry artist Donna Price will be joining them this year from Austria. Deana Blanchard and Chuck Young have participated in the tour since 1996, doing their first three tours at the studios of other artists before opening their own studio in 1999 along with four friends.
